TOTEM

Project researchers

The TOTEM project - 4D Trento Time Machine - funded by Fondazione CARITRO, want to realize a set of solutions (web portal, multi-temporal 3D city models, smartphone app, etc.) to offer multimedia content to citizens and tourists related to the history of Trento (Italy). The aim is to revive and visit virtually the Trento of the past, from the early 19th century to the present days, admiring the ancient appearance of the buildings, reading its history through transformations, observing the path of the Adige in the period prior to its straightening (1858), recognizing the old Austrian military barracks in actual school buildings or Green Tower as the river port. It will be possible to analyze the relationship green-urban in the city throught the years, understand the different uses of spaces over time, understand how the river has shaped the urban system and road, see the water level in the city during the 1966 flood, etc.

In TOTEM, advanced ICT technologies and cultural heritage come together to:
(i) make humanistic research even more interesting and put it at disposal of a wider public and
(ii) enhance the territory and its archives.

The project runs in collaboration with some local heritage stakeholders which will make historical data available and share their knowledge for carrying out research and development activities. These project tasks are linked to georeferencing automatic historical data, generation of a 4D city model, colorization of historical images with AI-based methods, geospatial analyses, visualization of historical data on a web viewer and smartphones, etc.
