Solar Potential of Building Roofs

The generation of geometric detailed 3D models of buildings allow an accurate estimation of the photovoltaic potential of roofs. Normally LiDAR-based surface models are used while we concentrate on aerial image-based surface models achieved with advanced matching algorithms in order to extract surface models (DSM) at 50 cm or even better geometric resolutions. These geometric models are used to estimate the incoming solar radiation and evaluate the quality of the roofs as possible locator of photovoltaic panels. Two projects were run on this topic: ENERBUILD and 3D Solar Web.
