The geological wealth of the Calisio Plateau near Trento (Italy) is known since ancient times by its inhabitants. Some underground resources have played an important role in the development of this territory and the silver mines played a very important role in the the Middle Age. Miners - called canopy - mined the precious metal and created still evident signs and tunnels all over the Plateau. The project aims to digitally count, survey and map (in 2D and 3D) the numerous signs of miners by means of Geomatics and Geoinformatics techniques. High density LiDAR-based DTM data are automatically processed to identify the mining holes and store information like position, height, depth, diameter, depth, etc. in a database useful for analysis and valorization purposes.
